CTS Coupe to debut at Los Angeles autoshow

August 18, 2008 - 3:58 pm

It appears that in addition to showing off the new SRX and the production CTS Sport Wagon, Cadillac also took some select journalists aside (nope, apparently we don’t qualify) to show off the production CTS Coupe in the lead-up to its public debut at this year’s LA auto show (expect the debut on Nov 19th or 20th).

CTS CoupeReports have the new coupe looking almost exactly like the concept with the same radical sheet metal and only some minor detail changes. Electronic door switches have been confirmed and we now know that a rear-view camera to compensate for the body’s lack of rear visibility will be part of the package.

Powertrains were not revealed, but everything points to at least one version of the 3.6l V-6 as well as the supercharged LSA V-8 from the CTS-V sedan. Expect export versions to also have the 2.9l diesel V-6 available.

Production and sales should begin for the coupe in the second half of 2009 as a 2010 model.

Cadillac launches new Escalade Hybrid

August 18, 2008 - 4:00 am

Sorry for missing this one…this news dropped on the same day my first child was born…so I was a bit distracted. We’re working to get one of these for a full-blown driving review – so stay tuned.

The 2009 Escalade Hybrid (available in standard Escalade form for now, no EXT or ESV to start) is packing GM’s new two-mode hybrid drive that provides a 50% boost in highway mileage. This for a $3600 premium over a comparable non-hybrid Escalade (for a MSRP of $71,685). Power running boards and 4-wheel drive are the only options.

This should give Escalade buyers an option beyond picking a smaller vehicle for reducing their fuel bills.

Fun at the Dream Cruise - CTS-V Police Car

August 17, 2008 - 1:54 am

The good folks over at Jalopnik have a few photos of this GM-sponsored CTS-V at the Dream Cruise.

Jalopnik CTS-V PoliceKind of makes you glad that most police forces couldn’t afford this type of firepower – doesn’t it? Of course, this kind of interceptor would certainly make short work of just about any chase scenario we can think of…

Yowza! Cadillac drops CTS Sport Wagon on us at Pebble Beach

August 15, 2008 - 4:05 am

2010 CTS Sport WagonColor us surprised at Cadillac’s decision to show off their two new utility vehicles, the 2010 CTS Sport Wagon and the new 2010 SRX at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Details of note:

Only 25 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat (the position appears to be that if you want sporty – get this wagon, if you want cargo room, choose the SRX).

Powertrain choices mirror the sedan, which means 6-speed manual or automatic, rear or all-wheel drive (with the exception of the unavailable 6-speed manual/all-wheel drive combo, same as the sedan). Engines include the same 3.6l V-6 in Direct Injection and non-DI flavors as well as the 2.9l diesel V-6 in Europe.

Actually 0.3 inches shorter than the sedan

Available 19” wheels

Unique integrated roof ‘rack’ cargo management system that conceals the cross bars and provide a ‘fin’ of sorts when viewed from behind.

If it weren’t for the upcoming coupe…this could easily be the sexiest of the CTS models…an odd position to find for something as utilitarian as a wagon.
