SRX doing quite well with new model

February 11, 2010 - 1:00 pm

GMInsideNews has some details on how the new SRX is doing vs. the previous model…

Cadillac SRX retail sales were up 218 percent vs. last year, the fifth consecutive month it has gained more than 100 percent year-over-year SRX gained approximately 15 points of retail share in the Mid-lux SUV crossover segment (Jan. 2009 vs. Jan. 2010)

Very nicely done, Cadillac. It appears that chasing the Lexus RX is working.

February 10, 2010 - 3:49 pm

Hennessey, maker of higher performing versions of just about any car of note, has just shown off the V700 package for the CTS-V.

Hennessey V700Those of you familiar with Hennessey naming likely already know that this car is putting out at least 700hp (707 @ 6300 to be exact) with 701 lb*ft of twist.

With this much power, it should be no surprise that they are claiming 3.3 second 0-60 times with a top speed of 211 mph.

Note: Hennessey also offers V600, V650, and V800 packages for the CTS-V.

Below, you’ll find their video showing their take on the V doing its thing:

Autoweek: GM planning hybrid ATS and CTS

February 8, 2010 - 2:58 pm

It appears that the second generation 2-mode hybrid system from GM (currently seeing duty in full-sized trucks and SUVs like the Escalade) will shed enough weight and size to see duty in cars.

According to GM vice chairman Tom Stephens, this will result in the new system seeing use in the upcoming Alpha platform that will underpin the ATS and, according to reports, the next CTS.

The two-mode system is unique among hybrid systems in that it offers fuel economy benefits at highway speeds and is much more accepting of high-load conditions (like towing in its truck uses).

SRX Ext 04Cadillac certainly didn’t pull any punches with the car they provided for us to test, a 2.8l turbo AWD with the Premium package.

While it is technically possible to get into an SRX for a touch over $33k – if you are willing to accept front-drive, 3.0l DI engine, no wood trim, standard nav w/ bluetooth, power liftgate, etc. many of which are not even available a la carte on the base trim – then that is an alternative for you..if you can find one. For folks walking into a showroom after seeing the starting price – it could be a bit of a shock to the system.

What we are looking at here is the automotive equivalent of a Hollywood franchise ‘reboot’ – where the name and basic story stay the same, but all the actors, director, etc. are replaced to take things in a different direction.. In terms of risk, the shift Cadillac took with the SRX for its second generation would be like the Harry Potter movies dropping Daniel Radcliffe for one of the Jonas brothers. Sure it might look to the execs like you would get benefits such as pulling in a different demographic – but the previous fans might just come after you with torches and pitchforks for screwing with ‘their baby’.

So, what has Cadillac done, why did they do it, and will they need to raise the drawbridges to keep out the angry hordes?
